
What’s On At The Museum of Contemporary Art
Following the major redevelopments at The Museum of Contemporary Art earlier this year, a visit here has become even more worthwhile. Dedicated to exhibiting, collecting and interpreting contemporary art, the museum has a jam-packed calendar with exhibitions and events not to be missed. Here’s what’s on over the next few months.
What: Ken Whisson: As If
When: Until Sunday 25th November
Price: Free
This exhibition, produced in collaboration with the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne, showcases the work of one of Australia’s most significant painters. Here you can examine Whisson’s major themes, viewing portraits, landscapes and sketches that display the evolution of his work over the past six decades.
What: Contemporary Art Bingo
When: Thursday 25th October, 7.30-8.30pm
Price: $5
This is interactive bingo with a twist. If you would like a chance at winning the coveted Contemporary Art Bingo Trophy then have your bingo dabbers at the ready. A knowledge of art will obviously help, with questions on MCA artworks and subversive art theory but fear not, celebrity gossip trivia will also be thrown into the mix. What’s more, there will also be free tea and biscuits for all participants.
What: MCA ARTBAR: Halloween Special
When: Friday 26th October, 7.00-11.00pm
Price: General – $20/Concessions – $15 (Advanced booking/Booking fees apply)
Curated by the artist Nell, this Halloween event has a supernatural theme where you can expect zombies, ghosts, fairies and monsters. With live music, viewing areas, lectures and a dance lesson, Nell’s effigy to life and death is sure to send shivers down the spine.

When: Saturday 10th November, 9.00am-3.30pm

Do you enjoy filming video and know your way around Adobe Premier Elements? This could be the event for you. With the guidance of ‘Primavera 2012′ artist, Todd McMillan, you can learn more about filming, editing and displaying work while expanding your video art experimentation.
What: MCA Young Ambassadors Present The Museum Of Contemporary Art Australia’a 21stBirthday
When: Saturday 10th November, 8.30pm-Midnight

This isn’t an event for those on a budget, but if you are passionate about art and want to help raise funds for Primavera, the MCA’s annual exhibition for young Australian artists, you can purchase a ticket on the MCA website. Celebrating MCA’s 21st birthday guests will be joined by Primavera artists for a rooftop party with music, cocktails, grazing stations and a dessert bar. There will also be a raffle and live auction.
