Whitehaven Beach
It’s easy to see why Whitehaven beach is often cited as one of the best beaches in Australia, if not the world; located on Haslewood Island, this 7km stretch of white sand is simply incredible. Being composed of 98% silica, the beach’s pristine white sand is almost powder like in its consistency and doesn’t retain heat, making it delightful to walk on even at the height of summer. Whilst there, be sure to make the trip to Hill Inlet on the Northern edge of the beach, a stunning inlet providing a landscape of beautiful colours and swirling shapes.

Luncheon Bay
If you want to explore Luncheon Bay you’ll want to try and arrive early – it’s a prime spot in the Whitsundays. Situated on the north side of Hook Island, Luncheon is one of the top locations for snorkelling and will give you the chance to spot some clownfish close up!
Blue Pearl Bay
Found on the north-western side of Hayman island, this bay is known for its stunning sea life, making for the perfect swimming and snorkelling spot. The best coral can be found in shallow waters off the Southern beach, whilst the best diving spot is near Castle Rock. While in the water keep your eyes peeled for the Maori Wrasse, a large and comical fish which can be recognised it by its plump lips and the trademark hump on its head.
Horseshoe Bay
It’s not just on the Whitsundays islands you can find idyllic beaches, but the mainland too. Before or after your Whitsundays trip make a stop off at Bowen, where you’ll discover the lovely Horseshoe Bay, aptly named for its curved shape. Being somewhat hidden, this sand bay provides a private, serene experience, whilst its pristine waters make for terrific snorkelling. If you’re fortunate enough, you may even spot some sea turtles!
Palm Bay
Found on Long Island, the closest Island to the mainland, this bay provides the perfect spot to unwind. With only one resort on the whole island, Palm Bay Resort, this is one of the most tranquil and serene of all the islands, making it the perfect romantic getaway. What with its Balinese huts and coconut palms, you can almost imagine yourself marooned on a tropical island!
