Whenever anyone goes travelling, chances are they’re going to be taking hundreds of photos of their destinations and experiences. But there are some people that go one step further, and travel because of their passion for photography. ISO Expeditions take people with such a passion to amazing places around the world, including India, New Zealand, China and Iceland. We speak to photographer and owner of ISO Expeditions, Adeilson Santos, about what to expect on their photography tours…
How do you choose the destinations you visit?
We choose every single place very carefully. We look for places with a natural beauty and rich in culture that we are accustomed.
You have expeditions in many places around the world, are your tour guides local the destinations? What is their expertise?
Our ISO Expeditions tour guides are professional photographers and experienced in leading photographic groups around the globe. They are always accompanied by a local guide in the area to help with local issues.
How do you choose your guides?
In addition to having a long experience in photography, it is essential that the photographic guide has didactic to teach and share their professional experience with our travellers, and has a good portfolio. To be charismatic is not a plus but a requirement.
What are some of the popular activities and sights on the tours with passengers? Are these all photography opportunities?
We always try to combine adventure, culture, new discovery, and amazing opportunities of photography, safety and comfort. In some expeditions we can balance it, in some we just can’t due the environment. Most of the time we manage to fulfil all expectations.
What are some of the most popular areas to photograph on your tours?
Certainly landscapes are our most popular shots. Cities also have a charm and peculiarities that make any interesting photo. Then comes a portrait as the third demand.
What can passengers learn about photography during the tours? What aspects of photography are covered? Do passengers need to have experience in photography?
We always try to cover all aspects of photography. From the very basics like perspective, angles, aperture, speed, iso, frame up to the right lenses and technical support. Our passengers do not need experience to participate in our trips. Just be willing to immortalise moments and very commonly make some profit from it.
What kind of people book your tours? Do you have passengers from all walks of life?
Our travellers are 18+ and all kinds of professions, but with some things in common. They are people who love the nature, adventure and more than anything, photography.
What advice would you give someone that is thinking about taking a photography expedition?
Do not wait until tomorrow; enjoy your life today, see new places, try new flavours… and always with a good camera in your hands.
What is the core of ISO Expeditions?
Our expeditions are planned especially for our customers to not have any work or stress. We have trained professionals to meet photographic needs; local guides are highly knowledgeable of the area. The accommodations are very comfortable; the hotels are 5 stars (except in remote places there are no hotels, but the camps are very well equipped).
