Interview with Skeptical Ahead Of His Up Coming Gig At Hospitality In The Park!

Can you please intro yourself in a few words and tell us who you are by day and who you are by night?

My name is Ashley Tindall also known as Skeptical or Skeppy as some like to call me. By day I hibernate and by night I’m like a mad scientist with insomnia.

How’s the start of the European summer festival/clubbing season going for you? Is it too early to ask for highlights?

Yeah it’s been decent so far. I played the Let It Roll winter festival in Czech Republic at the start of the year which set the bar. Then a couple weeks ago I drove a 6hr trip to Gotwood Festival in North Wales for the Exit Records takeover. Obviously being in the UK I took my wellies as it’s was a bit of a wet one. Wicked little festival up there though and the rain didn’t dampen the mood which was good.

Can you tell us a little about where you live? What’s the clubbing/electronic music scene like?

I live in a little Market town called Hitchin, Hertfordshire. It’s just north of London. I love it here, it’s a beautiful little town with lots of pubs and places to eat. The club scene was good back in the 90’s but unfortunately its fallen off a bit now. I wouldn’t know much about the clubs here nowadays as I only really go to clubs if I’m working.

Can you recommend any clubs/bars? 

There’s not many clubs here but I’d recommend coming and getting involved. We have have 28 pubs here in Hitchin!

Do you have a favourite restaurant or cafe? 

Recently an amazing Mexican restaurant opened on Bucklerbury Street in Hitchin called Cantina Cantinas. I’d recommend the burritos. They’re a taste sensation.

Where’s the best place to party during the day? Do you have any good day clubs or annual festivals?

There was this festival that took over the whole of Hitchin town centre called Rhythms of the World but it ended up getting too big for the town and they had to move it to private land. Once they did that the festival kinda lost its magic and has since downsized again. Other than that there’s the occasional street food fest in the town square.

Where else will you be playing this summer in Europe? What are you most looking forward to?

All over! I’m playing 3 sets at Hospitality in the Park this year which I’m excited about. One solo set with SP:MC and 2 back to back sets with dBridge then S.P.Y, Break and MC GQ. I’ll also be joining the hospital gang playing Hospitality on the Beach in July. 

I’ll be at Dimensions & Outlook festival again this year and have a DJ set at both. I always look forward to those 2 because of the boat parties and I get to catch up with some friendly faces. 

Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide festival is another one I’m excited about as I’ve heard good things. It’s in a small town called Sète in the south of France and the venue they use looks amazing. Check it out, it’s called Théâtre de la Mer.

I’ll also be playing a debut alongside Alix Perez & SP:MC at Dour festival this year as well as many other festivals.

Can you give us three recommendations for clubs or festivals our readers should visit this year?

1. Dimensions & Outlook (Because it’s the last one at the fort and that venue is magical.)

2. Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival.

My latest release came out on Exit Records called Fibonacci Sequence. I also have a release that’s schedule for 28th June called ‘Musket’ which I’m releasing myself on a single sided 10” hand stamped vinyl. It’s the first time I’ve ventured out and released a track myself so I’m quite nervous but at the same time excited. You can listen to it via my Skeptical Bandcamp page.
