Interview with You Me At Six
Hello guys, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us! Where are we currently speaking to you from?
Pleasure. Seven sisters overground train station, London, UK.

I know you guys originally come from Weybridge in Surrey, do any of you still live there?
Yeah the other four still live there, I (Josh) moved to London.
This year has seen you release your fifth album ‘Night People’, was it difficult finding that same enthusiasm for writing as you did for the earlier albums?
In short, no. But when you enjoy what you do for your life, then it’s about building confidence to produce something great rather than enthusiasm. Once we eventually got the ball rolling, we were off.
The new album seems to have a slightly different vibe to previous ones. Did you consciously decide to do this beforehand, or did it just come with being more confident in your ability over the years?
Our opinion of this band is that we make music with the intention of us 5 lads liking it. The fact others gravitate towards our music and enjoy listening to it half as much as we did making it, well that, that’s what gets us out of bed in the morning. Our evolution has been organic, we don’t try and force things.

In your early days you toured with some huge bands; who was the biggest influence on you guys as a band? Was there any particular bands that took you under their wing and helped you find your feet?
Paramore took us under their collective wing for sure. Growing up we were influenced by anyone and everyone as we just loved music and creating it.
Are there any new bands coming through that you guys are tipping for big things?
Nothing but Thieves, Vant. They are two great bands.
You are touring the new album and will be coming to Australia to play three massive shows in September, are you excited about returning to Australia?
Australia is the place that when I first ever landed there when I was 20, it felt like a second home. I love it and can’t wait to perform for our Aussie fans.
When you started out making music together did it ever even cross your minds that one day you would be playing your songs to people, quite literally, on the other side of the world?
Never. It still feels incredibly unique and remarkable. We just enjoy it every time like it’s the last.
What can your Aussie fans, who haven’t had the privilege of seeing you live before, expect from the upcoming tour?
The second best night of their lives, ever.
You actually ended your UK tour just gone at the grand Alexandra Palace venue in North London. Is this the sort of venue you see yourselves playing from now on? Are YOU ME AT SIX very much an arena band going forward?
We always aim for our band to continue this wonderful journey and aim for bigger and better. All venues and all settings allow us to feel comfortable. Every audience is a unique crowd with qualities different to the next.
Finally, which member of the band is the worst when it comes to the long distance travelling?
Chris… he hates flying.
