2017 Emerging Photographer Award | Opening Night

Join us for one of our favourite nights of the year – the opening night of the SUNSTUDIOS 2017 Emerging Photographer Award.

Now in it’s ninth year and still going as strong as ever, the Award is recognized as one of Australia’s top competitions in the emerging photographic space, synonymous with raising the profile of up-and-coming talent. We did things a bit differently this year, inviting emerging photographers and assistants to simply submit a single series, consisting of 3-5 images, of their best body of personal work.

This year we are very privileged to have five esteemed judges on the panel:

• Steven Chee, fashion and beauty photographer
• Michael Corridore, commercial fine art photographer
• Jack Harries, founder of The Heavy Collective
• Sean Izzard, Commercial advertising photographer and founder of the POOL Collective
• Dave Varney, Senior Art Director at Leo Burnett Sydney

The judging panel had the difficult task of reviewing an exceptionally high standard of work amongst a record number of submissions, ultimately selecting the winner, runner-up and highly commended prizes, as well as the overall Top Ten.

The Award culminates in an exhibition of the finalists work, opening on Thursday 21st September 2017 at SUNSTUDIOS Sydney. The event is not to be missed, and in previous years we have seen high profile leaders in the arts, media, fashion and entertainment industries in attendance. The special evening sees people from all walks of the image-making community come together to celebrate great imagery and the next generation of photographers, over a canape and Young Henrys beverage.

Winners will be announced on the opening night and receive their prizes:

First Prize
Exhibition at SUNSTUDIOS including printing, mounting, curatorial and opening night costs.

Runner Up Prize
$4000 “Canon” Dollars to spend in the SUNSTUDIOS retail showroom.

Highly Commended Prize
6-month flexi membership in The Treehouse Co-Working Space.
Studio hire and equipment rental package.
