What is Formwork?

Formwork is the term given to the mould into which concrete is poured. The mould generally made of timber or steel, the surface in contact with the concrete being selected to give the required finish. The strength of the formwork and its associated falsework must be sufficient to support the weight of the wet concrete without distortion.

Formwork is removed once the concrete has set though in some circumstances it may be left in place (this is called permanent formwork).
