Sydney
- Architect: Luigi Rosselli Architects
- Project: Alterations and Additions
Set over three levels, this stately Sydney mansion is a model of contemporary living whilst maintaining an ode to timeless architecture.
The extensive renovation and re-arrangement of the ‘old wing’ respectfully retains its old world charm whilst giving it a modern relevance. Internally the tall ceilings, panelled doors, decorative wall panelling and moulded trims work together to create both a timeless style and a warm and cosy ambience. This elegance is continued outside with timber shutters framing the external steel framed windows and restoration of the classic timber verandah to complete the home’s romance.
The intent to cater to contemporary living is also evident in the home’s extensive list of facilities, services and environmentally friendly installations. The new lap pool is fitted with an automated pool cover and heated with a solar heating system. Solar power is also used to fuel the home’s electrical requirements and an on-site stormwater detention tank stores water for landscape irrigation. A 6-passenger lift services all three levels of the home and an extensive audio visual system has been installed throughout. Construction of a theatre room, gym, scullery, steam room and live-in staff accommodation complete the comprehensive list of this home’s inclusions.
The home is finished in a classic pallet of colours and natural materials. The floors are predominantly finished in European Oak timber strip flooring whilst polished concrete features throughout the contemporary styled living areas of the new wing. The bathrooms feature a range of rich and textured finishes including Honed Calacutta Marble, Italian mosaic tiles and Ash Fossil limestone and a natural basalt stonework is used to clad the living room fireplace.
This focus on natural materials continues outside. The home’s boundary fencing is constructed from a timeless mix of timber slat fencing and Tamala limestone and the external living areas are finished in Mount White sandstone paving and gravel.
