Network Transmission Engineer

The Network Transmission Engineer will have primary responsibility for:

• Transmission element on-boarding to SIEM
• Syslog management
• Stakeholder management
• Use case testing/verification
• Development and implementation of standards and procedures

The holder will primarily work in the Network Operations team but may be asked to work in other areas of the NMC Networks team if the need arises.

Key accountabilities:

• Manage the on-boarding of transmission elements onto the SIEM (Security Incident Event Management). Platforms supported include: Alcatel SDH/WDM/CE/NMS/ATM, Huawei SDH/WDM/CE/DSLAM/HMD5500/IP DSLAMS, Ciena HDX/DX/Metro5200/OM4x00/OM6500/OME6110/LH1600, Fujitsu FBX/FLM/FLASH/FRX/FLX, Lucent ADM/GX550/DSLAM.
• Liaise with other groups within the NMC, Tier2, Engineering and vendors.
• Liaise with Trustwave to ensure all required element types are successfully on-boarded and relevant use cases are tested.
• Continuous process review, improvements and implementation.
• Adherence to local area procedures such as WH&S and security policy.

Required experience:

• A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in telecommunications. Both depth and breadth of technical experience is required. This should include extensive experience in a technical role in one or more of the following areas: SDH transmission, Carrier Ethernet, DWDM, IP Networking, OSS (Network management)
• Knowledge of Log collection and analysis tools
• Basic understanding and knowledge including:
  • Understanding of network architecture and elements
  • Knowledge of technical design
  • Solutions development lifecycle
• Clearly communicate and present ideas and information to manager level
• Clearly communicate network design and recommendations
• Demonstrated ability to visually depict and interpret a solution design

Desired experience:

• Experience in Big Data solutions
• Experience in network design and implementation
• Experience in a large scale network environment
• ITIL
