Manly Art Gallery & Museum

‘Still life with Landscape’ by Gary Carsley uses the supposedly redundant form of image making, photocopy, not something you would necessarily associate with printmaking. Using such outdated processes and technologies, Carsley addresses current issues in life and art. For this work, we are told to remember Edward Said’s affirmation that in the 1960’s during a period of heightened idealism and sustained protest against the established order, ‘floral spectacles were extolled as virtuous forms of non-violent resistance’. ‘Still life with landscape’ is on display as part of ‘Aura: Repetition, Reproduction and the Mark of the Artist’ until 3 September. There is an Artist in coversation, with the curator Ben Rak and several artists from the show, Sunday 30 July at 3pm.
