What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – Faithless’ Final Concert
What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – Faithless’ Final Concert One last dance: cinema event brings Faithless’ final concert to Australian fans for the first time.
Dance music pioneers Faithless took their final bow before a sold-out crowd in London on 8 April 2011, but Australian fans are invited to have one last dance with the band at a special cinema event at Hoyts Cinemas from 18-21 August.
The next best thing to being at Brixton’s O2 Academy, Faithless: Passing the Baton captures the full arena production of the trio’s last ever concert.
Filmed using the latest high-definition technology and recorded in stunning 5:1 surround sound, the film promises to have cinema audiences out of their seats and dancing to anthems such as “Insomnia”, “God Is A DJ” and “We Come 1”.
The first dance music event to be beamed live into cinemas, the film was originally broadcast in cinemas across the UK and Northern Europe thanks to satellite technology, allowing more than 5000 fans to party for one last night with the band that defined an era.
“We were able to organize the broadcast in just three weeks and received reports of fans dancing in the aisles from Warsaw to Dublin,” said Steve Machin of distributors Omniverse Vision.
“Faithless: Passing the Baton offers a new kind of cinema-going experience, capturing the party atmosphere of a live concert, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the film to Australian audiences for the first time.”
Hoyts’ General Manager – Digital Content, Linda Hickey added: “Hoyts Concerts Larger Than Live is proud to be presenting Faithless: Passing the Baton to our
customers. This will be a unique opportunity for fans of the music to celebrate the end of an era, all in spectacular high definition in a collective environment.”
“The digital era of both live and recorded concerts in cinemas is fast becoming a reality, with audiences experiencing a sense of being there, at a ticket price that is significantly less and with a view of the performance that is equivalent to sitting in the front row,” said Hickey.
With a triple platinum greatest hits album, six UK gold-certified albums, six top 10 singles and a catalog of memorable remixes and collaborations, the influence of Faithless on the current crop of dance artists is unmistakable.
Announcing the band’s split, lead vocalist Maxi Jazz wrote: “We’ve had, with our fans, the most unbelievable, epic and moving experience, stretching over years and tens of thousands of miles.”
“Joyful, exhilarating, and empowering, we never for a moment thought an affair could last this long.”
