What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – Flying Lotus/Martyn/Africa Hitech/Arp 101
Kickstarting 2012 with an exceptionally loud BANG, Niche Productions presents a bass bin twisting triple bill showcasing the best of future music producers in Warp Records’ Flying Lotus and Africa Hitech alongside 3024/Brainfeeder’s Martyn.
Flying Lotus aka Steve Ellison needs no introduction to Sydneysiders. Appearing yearly in the city armed with either his laptop or in full band mode as we saw him last year, Ellison constantly reinvents the boundaries of what is possible with cutting edge music, be it Jazz, Dubstep or his own brand of Future Beats. His third album Cosmogramma was one of the most celebrated releases of 2010 and we look forward to more new material in 2012.
Dutchman in America Martyn was somewhat of a quiet achiever until his debut album Great Lengths erupted across the world in 2009. A seamless mix of Dubstep, Deep House and something else (which he calls ‘Martyn Music’), Martyn has just released his second album Ghost People on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint. His contribution to the Fabric mix series set fans up for a more 4-4 affair but still with the same love of DnB and Dubstep sounds as heard on tracks like Viper and Bopgun.
Englishmen abroad, Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek are Africa Hitech. Whilst the two reside in Sydney, their sound is an incomparable mix of influences that derive from Africa but have gone worldwide. After two incredible EPs (including Blen), the duo finally released their debut album 93 Million Miles in 2011, impressing with a mixture of Footwork, Sun Ra inspired spiritual jazz, Deep Techno and other juxtapositions of sweet and heavy.
Do not miss this opportunity to hear and see the world’s finest producers under one roof showcasing their latest and greatest and get 2012 well and truly going with this incredible night of speaker-pounding goodness.
