What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – Metro Theatre Sydney Gig Guide

Follow us on Google News

The Metro Theatre has long been one of Sydney’s most popular music venues. It houses local up-and-coming bands as well as international superstars. BBM has taken a peek into the new show schedule to find out just why they are an awesome place and this is what we found:

1. SEEKAE
Saturday 20th August at 8 pm
Seekae are an Australian electronic dance act that has quickly built an array of Aussie and European fans. They are coming back to their home turf to play in four venues this August after their second album, +Dome, was released earlier this year which has left them touring internationally for months.
At just $20 dollars a ticket, this will be a Saturday night like Saturdays should be. Good music, good venue, all that’s up to you is good company.

2. THE VINES
Saturday 27th August at 7 pm
After 5 successful studio albums, The Vines have cemented themselves firmly in the rock and roll scene. Playing alongside them will be Papa vs Pretty and Bleeding Knees Club, two bands that are both eagerly tipped to climb the musical ladder with ease.
Formed in 1994, The Vines have plenty of experience in performing live and their quality has done nothing but improve from year to year.
Expect to hear new tracks from their recently released album Future Primitive.

3. ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI
Thursday 1st September at 7 pm
This Australian pop band is quickly becoming globally acclaimed after jetting off and touring Europe, the USA and Russia.
Their live shows are known for being joyous and their songs for being addictively sweet.
They are devoting August and September to a comprehensive tour of Australia, giving back to their loyal fans who were there before they snowballed quickly into the world of fame and fortune.

4. FRENZAL RHOMB
Friday 2nd September at 8 pm
Frenzal Rhomb is an Australian punk rock band formed back in the ’90s in Sydney. Known for being controversial for their lyrics, behaviour and stance on radical politics, they are a band that isn’t afraid to do or say as they please.
They were banned from Triple J, offended Australian radio broadcaster Jackie O but have always maintained what they are really good at, by making pure and powerful punk rock.

5. SPARKADIA
Thursday 8th September at 8 pm
Titled “The Mary Tour”, alternative pop-rockers, Sparkadia are coming back to tour after their third single to be released Mary has grown in popularity.
Their second album The Great Impression was released earlier this year and has hailed vocalist, Alex Burnett as one of Australia’s best songwriters.
They have been busy celebrating festivals abroad but they are most prominent at home in Australia, performing to nothing less than riotous applause.

6. TITLE FIGHT
Friday 9th September at 8 pm
Title Fight are collaborating with Touche Amore for a night of hardcore punk rock.
The release of Title Fights’ debut album ‘Shed’ has seen them catapulted upwards in the hierarchy of punk rock. With NME saying nothing but praise, it’s hard to not be curious about what it is that makes this American 4-piece band so good.
This is their first-ever tour in Australia so they will be out to impress.

7. JOSH PYKE
Saturday 10th September at 8 pm
Josh Pyke is an Australian singer/songwriter who has been performing since he was at High School.
Three albums later, the award-winning musician has grown from strength to strength and gathered a fan base near and far.
The latest and much-anticipated album Only Sparrows was written whilst he was on the road and when he stayed in New York and has been received well by his fans.

8. MONSTER MAGNET
Wednesday 14th September at 7 pm
Monster Magnet is an American stoner rock band, known for their long hair, heft amps, charged performances and classic rock that has kept them going since the late 1980s.
They flourished in the 1990s but have not faded away into obscurity since. Happy to perform and lovers of what they do, Monster Magnet are aging rockers with an undeniable passion for the youth.

9. BIRDS OF TOKYO
Thursday 15th September at 7 pm
Birds of Tokyo are a 4-piece alternative rock band from Perth in Western Australia. They released their self-titled third album in 2010 and have received award nominations left right and center since.
Not even bass player, Antony Jackson, leaving the band just a few months ago has halted their progression.
I’m sorry to say this gig sold out a long time ago but if you can somehow still find a ticket, do.

10. KIMBRA
Friday 16th September at 8.30 pm
This performance was initially due to be at The Oxford Arts Factory but due to popular demand, the venue has been changed to have a larger capacity.
Kimbra recently collaborated with Gotye on his new album Making Mirrors and has been enjoying vast airplay since.
Born in New Zealand but currently based in Melbourne, Kimbra’s debut album Vows is due for release later this year. Known for her powerful voice, the album is already hotly tipped for success.
