What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – ‘Sounds of Day and Night’
What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – ‘Sounds of Day and Night’ From Wednesday 30 November – Sunday 18 December 2011, Alaska Projects will kick off their program of solo exhibitions with Nick Collerson’s Sounds of Day and Night, curated by Toby Chapman, set to take over the unique project space within the converted mechanics’ office on Level 2 of the Kings Cross Car Park.
What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – ‘Sounds of Day and Night’ Nick Collerson was born in Newfoundland, Canada. Moving from his place of birth soon after being born, and subsequently, through being moved internationally several times while growing up, cut off any sense of rootedness to a particular place or nation. These formative experiences, along with a keen interest in both Eastern and Western philosophical thought and art, have greatly influenced the themes in Nick’s work. Nick currently lives and works in Sydney where he is undertaking a Masters of Fine Art at the National Art School.
This year, Collerson’s work was featured in the New Talent exhibition at Robin Gibson Gallery, and curated alongside work by Brett Whiteley, David Capra and Cash Brown in Paper Trail (also at the Robin Gibson Gallery. Collerson was also included in Alaska’s Lorem Ipsum: Opening Group Show I.
Alaska Projects officially launched on Wednesday 5 October with its first group exhibition. Almost 2000 visitors have passed through the unique 5×5 metre modular white cube space since.
In 2012, Alaska Projects will present a diverse program of work by artists including Samuel Hodge, Bababa International, Sarah Contos, Chloe Hughes, Bernadette Jones, Siouxsi Mernagh, Jess Olivieri, Sarah Rodigari and Rupert Reid.
Alaska Projects seeks to expand into additional diverse, hidden or unnoticed locations throughout Sydney for further exhibitions and residencies.
