What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – Street Football Festival What: Based on the overwhelming enthusiasm shown following the ‘2010 Big Issue Street Football Festival’ during the International FIFA Fan Fest, the NSW Government has committed $1.2 million in funding over five years to help stage the event.
What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – Street Football Festival This year The Big Issue ‘Street Football Festival’ will be played on a purpose-built floating pitch in front of The Palm Grove in Darling Harbour.
The 10-day festival will showcase the National Championships of the Big Issue’s Community Street Soccer Program, which provides weekly training to homeless and marginalized people in 25 underprivileged communities across the country. The festival will also incorporate a government agency cup, a corporate cup and a junior competition.
This event will see homeless and marginalized participants from around Australia come together to represent their state, with the view to becoming the 2011 National Champions. The National Championships Grand Final will be played on the weekend of June 4/5 (with qualifying matches played in the week leading up).
The Big Issue aims to attract the support of the public during this week, and in particular on the weekend, as we celebrate the milestones many of the National Championship participants have achieved.
