5PM WEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY ONGOING
Its been a long time coming, starting with the removal of fifteen ugly poker machines almost a year ago. We have left one pokie in there though… a vintage machine converted into a donation box for The Wayside Chapel, and The World Bar will be matching all funds deposited dollar-for-dollar. The Wayside do amazing work in the local area supporting people on and around the streets of Kings Cross – you can find out more about them here: www.thewaysidechapel.com.au
Bring your friends, enjoy tunes from DJ Jack Shit and The Green Mohair Suits (LIVE), and have a few free cocktails and some food on us. Take advantage of us, go on. We like it.
MONDAY AUGUST 8th
Second round of our a-m-a-z-i-n-g jazz open mic night… t’is worth popping down to, if only to see what the Cross would have looked, felt and sounded like in the heady jazz-fueled days of the 1930’s. It feels like you’re walking onto the olden-days set of the new Underbelly ‘Razor’ series, only with Teapots, pizzas, and iPhones. [email protected] is your contact for the night. Free, open every day from 1pm. Jazz 7:00pm til 10:30pm, DJs after til late.
TUESDAY AUGUST 9th: POP PANIC
For those of you pyschopaths who just can’t resist a drink even half-way through the week, I’ll see you up front next Tuesday at Pop Panic! 90’s tunes, guilty pleasures, and karaoke. For further explanation please email: [email protected]. Free.
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 10th: THE WALL: ART AND DUBSTEP
Instead of art upstairs this week, we will be launching our new Apothecary bar, and I feel like I’ve banged on about that possibly too much as it is. Don’t forget to let any and all artist buddies know they should email [email protected] to book their own commission-free exhibition space.
After our civilised bar launch, do join us for a waltz with party DJs Starjumps, Pablo Calamari, and DJ Valentine, or something decidedly more intense than a waltz in our dubstep dungeon with Glovecats, Will Styles, and Jitter. Good things happen at The Wall. And its free. ART: [email protected] PARTY: [email protected].
We need artists of all kinds to exhibit their works, commission-free at The Wall! Believe in yourself and you can achieve anything! Get in touch with [email protected] for more info and see www.artonthewall.tumblr.com for past and future talent. Art, international DJs, the biggest and best Wednesday in town… free as a bird. Free entry, 7:30pm til you don’t even want to know.
THURSDAY AUGUST 11th: PROPAGANDA
After a sneaky impromptu 7-hour set in the Gold Bar at Splendour In The Grass, the Propaganda DJs have dusted themselves off, hosed the wee out of their tents, and steeled themselves for another round at the best darn indie night in town. Urby, Mush and Chappers are those DJs. Free before 9pm, and free all night for students ($5 for everyone else), give [email protected].
FRIDAY AUGUST 12th: MUM
Every Friday is Mother’s Day at the sprawling indie house party that is MUM, at The World Bar. Double single launches from two of her favourite sons this week – Chick Who Love Guns are finishing up a series of gigs to launch their single God, Love and Satan in the clubroom, while Brisbane’s finest Dune Rats! launch theirs upstairs. Able support is delivered by Long Island Sound, Day Ravies, Strangers From Now On, Post Paint, Rat King and of course the MUM DJs. Keep your dial tuned to www.loveyourmum.com.au for tracks recorded live at MUM each week, and email [email protected] and [email protected] for any more info. Students are free before 10pm, $10 after. Everyone else is $10 from 8pm, $15 after 10pm.
SATURDAY AUGUST 13th: WHAM!
Every Saturday at WHAM!, The World Bar becomes some sort of Volvo clown-car for DJs… just when you think we couldn’t possibly couldn’t fit another one in the building, another appears! Its like some sort of party epidemic. POW POW! (Blotter) heads up proceedings this week, with James Taylor, Johnny Rad, Illya, Nukewood, Matt Weir, Kerry Wallace, Andy Webb, T-BO, Pipemix, and Daigo. [email protected] can tell you more.
SUNDAY AUGUST 14th: DEEPEND
Every Sunday, our Apothecary bar gets a special workout; we haul the DJ booth into the velvet shrine, and drizzle deephouse liberally upon the faithful. James Taylor, Alley Oop, Man Jazz and more perform this important community service. Sundays at The World Bar, it’s free, with DJs from 9pm. Email [email protected] for more info.
