What’s on in Sydney New South Wales – The World Bar Gig Guide
First of all flash-forward to an upcoming event that some of you may be interested in getting involved in: On Wednesday the 17th of August The Wall and Brag Eats proudly presents an evening of art and food, and it goes like this: we plan on canvasing the creatives of the Sydney arts/media/entertainment industry and shaking them down for their favourite recipes – the theme is sharable bar snacks, and we’re looking for 18 individuals and recipes (hot dogs, shish-kebabs, deep-fried gherkins, mini-burritos, you are limited only by your imagination), which we will then pair with an illustrator who will draw the finished product based upon the recipe. The combined recipe-artworks will be exhibited on the night, along with a complied cook booklet of all entries. We’ll also choose a few favourites to cook up en masse for all to enjoy on the night.
As I mentioned, for the next week we are trying to lock down the 18 foodies who will provide the recipes for the night – so please get in touch with me, [email protected], if YOU or any of the creative/media types you hang around the water cooler with are interested in submitting a tasty recipe from their delicious vault.
MONDAY JULY 18th
Snuggle in beside the new-second-hand piano (our latest purchase) in the main bar and count down the 7 days till we launch our fortnights open mic jazz night. DJs 16 Tacos and Pipemix (Generic DJs) are your faithful accompaniment to the end of the evening. [email protected] is your contact for all things jazz… we’re really excited about this.
TUESDAY JULY 19th: POP PANIC
A lot of people ask me, “Grant, what’s the freshest place to be on a Tuesday night? Don’t lie to me or I’ll kill you.” I usually tell them Harris Farm Markets. But sometimes fruit and vege just ain’t enough, and you need a heady dose of 90’s jams and karaoke. Well, we got it. [email protected] has got it, more to the point.
WEDNESDAY JULY 20th: THE WALL: ART AND DUBSTEP
The hangover from tonight’s huge gig (FUNTCASE of UKs CIRCUS RECORDS LABEL for goodness sake) will likely be still in full effect for July 21st a whole week later at least… So why not soothe yourself with a complimentary bubbly and an art exhibition upstairs from 7:30 pm this Wednesday? VISUAL COLLISON is Joshua Young’s first solo exhibition, his stack of large-format works are a collision of air-brushed sexiness, black ink sketchpad cartoon noodles and paint dripping excess. Once you’ve eased yourself into proceedings, Glovecats, Yayogi, and Hazy will cause you to wobble like you’re listening to dubstep (which you will be), and Starjumps, T-BO and My Lord Chiari will make you party like you’re partying (which you will be). Let’s party – it’s free! ART: [email protected] PARTY: [email protected].
We need artists of all kinds to exhibit their works, commission-free at The Wall! Believe in yourself and you can achieve anything! Get in touch with [email protected] for more info and see the past and future talent. Art, international DJs, the biggest and best Wednesday in town… free as a bird. 7:30 pm till you don’t even want to know.
THURSDAY JULY 21st: PROPAGANDA
This week triple j’s TOM BALLARD is stopping in for a cheeky DJ set at Sydney’s sweatiest indie night Propaganda… so if he sounds a little dusty on the breakfast show on Friday; you’ll know it because he was partying like a chimp with Urby, the Propaganda DJs and a gaggle of partying students til One Hundred O’Clock. If you haven’t been to Propaganda yet – you’re a jerk! Free as always for students, and $5 for everyone else, from 9 pm. [email protected] would love to see you.
FRIDAY JULY 22nd: MUM
Isn’t it great to come back to a home-cooked lineup of Australian bands every Friday at MUM’s house? Mmmm… I can smell it already. She’s got a seven-layered indie pie cooling on the window sill as we speak, and it contains Nantes, Dead Beat Band, Our Monk, Lunch Tapes, The Wireflys, Strangers V Strangers, Day Ravies and Sounds like Sunset, all very much LIVE indeed. The MUM DJs are the ice cream on top. Free before 8 pm, then $10 before 10pm and $15 after. [email protected] and [email protected] will spoon-feed it to ya!
SATURDAY JULY 23rd: WHAM!
SAMPOLOGY is the mash-up party DJ you wish every other DJ was, so your best bet this Saturday night is Wham at The World Bar because that’s the only place the shaggy-haired devil is going to be. Accompanied like an orchestra by a whole bunch of DJs so awesome they all want to be each other: the incomparable Kato, resident James Taylor, Raye Antonelli, Murat Kilic, Cassette, Adam Bozzetto, E-cats, Wedding Ring Fingers, Temnien and Bermuda P. And remember – for the whole month, we’ve got the Bordello floor decked out with black lights and interactive goodies to make the trip up the stairs well worth it… for the visuals and the music. Free before 8pm, $15 til 11pm, $20 after. Speak to [email protected] about it okay!
SUNDAY JULY 24th: DEEP HOUSE
Sundays at The World Bar, DJs James Taylor, Man Jazz and pals spinning deep house sounds from the cozy small bar-esque Apothecary cocktail bar, dueling fireplaces, and pepperoni pizzas out the ying-yang… YES, THIS SOUNDS VERY GOOD THANKS. Free, DJs from 9pm but you can stop in any time, any day, from 1 pm. [email protected]
