Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park
The Katherine Gorge is the backbone of the 2920 square km Nitmiluk National Park. It is located 30 km from Katherine. The Katherine river has carved out a series of thirteen deep sandstone gorges as it journeyed from the Arnhem Land down into the Timor Sea. It is a beautiful place that can become crowded during the season peaks. The dry climate will be ideal for a paddle. The wet season will cause the still waters to turn into a dividing rapid that produces an awesome torrent. You can spend a whole day cursing or canoeing on the river.
