A Darwin staple whilst you’re in town, Melaleuca On Mitchell recommends a visit to the Mindil Beach Sunset Market held every Thursday and Sunday.
As the sun sinks into the Arafura Sea, the whole town descend on Mindil Beach with picnic blankets and eskies (ice boxes for non-Aussie speakers).
Food is the main pull to this stunning evening market, with a plethora of cuisines on offer including Thai, Sri Lankan, Indian, Chinese and Malaysian to Brazilian, Greek and Portuguese to name a mere handful.
Visitors to the Mindil Beach Sunset Market can also expect a coloruful display of arts and crafts including handmade jewellery, natural remedies and unique clothing – so it’s the perfect place to pick up something to remember your travels by.
You can really have a great evening at the market as you take in the exciting energy, listen to the buskers and watch the street entertainers – you may even catch a fire show, so if you fancy a cheap night out from the hostel with a little culture then make sure you put this on your itinerary.
The Market is BYO and no smoking is permitted. So make sure you pass by a bottle-o (off license) on the way.
