Three Reasons You Need a VPN in Your Business Life

Follow us on Google News

There is not a day that goes by when a typical internet user does not see an advertisement from a company offering their Virtual Private Network (VPN) services. VPNs have become increasingly mainstream of late thanks, in part, to internet users becoming more aware of the importance of online privacy and security. At the same time, VPN companies have made their once complicated software more accessible than ever.

A VPN works like a middle man for your internet connection. Your internet traffic passes through the VPN’s servers before reaching its destination. The VPN often encrypts the data using 256-bit encryption technology, which is impossible to crack; it would take a quantum computer longer than the universe has existed to access the data without the encryption key! Often, the VPN routes the traffic through a server in another country, making it appear you are accessing a website from a different country than where you actually are.

This “geo-spoofing” gives you access to websites that are either blocked by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or makes it possible to view content that is unavailable in your region. For example, most private VPN users use a VPN to watch Netflix shows and movies that are not currently available in the United States or to appear to be in the United Kingdom and therefore can use the popular BBC iPlayer service. Others use a VPN to enjoy the best online betting Georgia has to offer. The choices are almost limitless, but are there any reasons to use a VPN as a business owner? Yes, of course.

Access Better Prices

A little-known fact about the internet is that some websites offer different prices to customers based on where they are accessing the site. This is common practice with airlines, so it is worth using a VPN if you frequently travel. Flights are often cheaper if you book them from the country you are traveling from. For example, you may have a business meeting in Germany and are flying from New York. You may save money by booking a single flight from New York to Germany, turning on your VPN, making it appear you are in Germany, and book a single flight for the return leg. It may only save you $30, but it is still a saving that adds up over time.

You can use a similar practice when purchasing goods from sites like Amazon. Huge savings can be had, even after paying for shipment and import tax, if you buy goods from another country using a VPN.

Three Reasons You Need a VPN in Your Business Life

As mentioned earlier, a VPN’s encryption is practically impossible to crack. The encrypted data is impossible to read by a third party without the encryption key. This includes the government, your ISP, or unscrupulous people hoping to hack your data. Do you want a rival to know what you are searching for on the internet? It seems far-fetched that a rival business would snoop on you, but it is not outside the reals of possibility.

Furthermore, do you want a rival to know that you have been researching them by visiting their websites? Services like Google Analytics can pinpoint where a website’s traffic comes from, meaning the webmaster knows who is looking at their products, what type of machine, and where. Using a VPN prevents the analytics software from showing your details because you could make it appear you are from somewhere obscure like Mozambique!

Iron Clad Protection On The Go

The days of all entrepreneurs conducting all their business from the office are long gone. We led busy lives that see us constantly on the move, traveling from city to city and state to state. How many times have you traveled and taken advantage of the free WiFi in a hotel foyer or a coffee shop? How often have you sent a work-related email or accessed company accounts? You need a VPN even if the answer is only once.

Installing a VPN onto your devices means you can use a public WiFi network without fear of prying eyes. Public WiFi security is notoriously lacking; anyone with relative know-how can snoop on your data. However, even a hacking mastermind would not be able to see your data if you run a VPN.
