Top Money Saving Tips When Travelling The World

Follow us on Google News

A round the world trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity that should be seized with both hands. Travelling not only allows you to see incredible places that you’ve always dreamed of, it also expands your mind and gives you the opportunity to learn about different cultures. Funding the trip can be difficult and some people may choose to take out a loan to help cover costs. If you’re considering applying for a loan you should only use reliable direct short term loan lenders. However, there are plenty of ways to save up for the trip and many ways to keep costs down while you are away.

Travel Overnight

One of the best pieces of advice for travellers is to do your travelling overnight. Not only does this mean you get to sleep through the boring seven hour train journey between countries, it also saves you money that you’d have to spend on accommodation otherwise. Settling down in your sleeping compartment and waking up in your destination is a win-win situation; it helps your budget to go further and means that you get to make the most of each destination instead of wasting days travelling.

Shop at Markets

It’s tempting to eat at local restaurants for every meal, especially if you’re visiting somewhere like Thailand- a country that’s famous for its great food! However, shopping at cheap street markets or supermarkets for breakfast and lunch will save you a surprising amount of money. Street food is also a great way to try authentic cuisine from your destination too, it’s always a good idea to choose the stalls that the locals seem to be drawn to for the best picks.

Plan Expensive Activities Ahead

A huge part of travelling is having experiences that you can’t have back at home. So, at some point in your trip, you’re going to have to spend a lot more than you normally would. The best way to keep costs down is to plan your activities well in advance of your arrival in the country. Fortunately, all you need to be able to book is access to your smartphone and Wi-Fi. If you’ve got used to living on a budget you may find it hard to part with your cash but for a once in a lifetime opportunity, like SCUBA diving or surfing lessons, the money is almost always worth it.

Work Along the Way

If you’re travelling around the world, the chances are you’re going to spend a considerable amount of time in each country. This means that you may be able to pick up a part-time job to help keep money worries at bay. The rules for travellers working abroad vary from country to country, so you’ll need to do your research to avoid trouble with the law. However, it’s pretty common for tourists to pick up bar work or waiting jobs to fund the next stretch of their journey. If you’re travelling to escape the grind of 9-5 life, it might seem like a chore to pick up a job but, ultimately, it’s a great way to meet new people.
