Victoria’s Snow Fields
If you’re after the true alpine village experience, look no further than Victoria’s snowfields, as you’ll find all you need in the village, located above the snowline. This means you can ski to and from your doorstep, catch the first run of the day, and enjoy your après ski drinks and dinner without leaving the mountain.
While Victoria’s three major resorts, Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek, have some of the best downhill runs in the country, Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain are fantastic places to see, touch and experience snow for the first time, and even learn to
ski or snowboard.
Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, there’s a resort to suit you. Lake Mountain is a great place to ride a toboggan, a snowmobile, or test your legs cross-country skiing.
Mt Buller has a big mountain feel with many bars, restaurants, lodges and luxury
hotels. Mt Hotham is the place for serious powder freaks, and if you want it all, then Falls Creek has the lot.
When to hit the slopes
The snow season typically starts in June and lasts until around the first week of October (although keep an eye on the snow reports!).
Victoria offers a variety of accommodation above the snowline, from backpacker rooms to cozy lodges and chalets.
If you are looking for budget options, consider staying in nearby towns such as Dinner Plain, Bright, Mansfield, Mount Beauty, Bogong Village, Omeo, Harrietville, and Marysville. Many of the lodges and apartments are self-catering, and you’ll also find great restaurants, cafes and bars to eat out.
