What’s on in Melbourne Victoria – East Brunswick Club
Long established as a music venue, The East Brunswick Club has showcased many hard-edged gigs for the people of Melbourne. Here is what they have coming up over next month:
1. THOUSAND NEEDLES IN RED
Friday 19th August at 8.30 pm
As part of The ‘Jim Beam Acoustic Sessions’, Thousand Needles in Red will be hitting Melbourne. Vocalist Clint Boge (the Butterfly Effect) and Guitarist Tristan Bouillaut (Kill The Capitol) will be showcasing their infamous live show. Known for their diverse songwriting and fresh from recording their highly anticipated self-titled debut album, Thousand Needles in Red will be eager to get touring.
2. THE KILL DEVIL HILLS
Saturday 20th August at 8.30 pm
The Kill Devil Hills is a 5-piece rock band from Western Australia. Formed in 2003, they have started expanding out of Australia and have been venturing to the USA, Canada and UK to perform.
They are known for their mix of genres including punk, country-rock, blues and ballads.
The multi-award-winning band has released three albums so far and are showing no signs of stopping any time soon.
3. ABBE MAY
Wednesday 24th August at 7.30 pm
Abbe May is touring for the launch of her debut album Design Desire. Abbe is a rock singer-songwriter best known in her home of Perth but is quickly becoming a name on everyone’s lips.
She is known for her melancholy voice and a delicate prowess when belting out ballads straight from the heart. As a musician, she is still in her infancy but is definitely one to watch.
4. HUSKY
Saturday 27th August at 8.30 pm
Husky is a 4-piece band from Melbourne who has been touring non-stop since they first hit the music scene.
Their show at the East Brunswick Club is to perform songs from their highly anticipated debut album Forever So.
They have toured recently with Devandra Bandhart and Noah and the Whale and now want to do it all themselves.
This intimate show will bring the audience close and show why they can headline as well as support.
5. STONEFIELD
Friday 2nd September at 8.30 pm
These four sisters have been impressing audiences in Australia and beyond since they were ‘unearthed’ by radio station JJJ recently.
Their home-grown psychedelic rock has recently blown away festival-goers and England’s Glastonbury Festival and now they are back to do their first Australian National Tour.
The Findlay sisters feminine yet epic rock has been the talking point of many musicians so keep an eye out for these homegrown young guns.
6. RUSSIAN CIRCLES
Wednesday 7th September at 7.30 pm
Russian Circles are a 3-piece instrumental post-rock/ post-metal band from Chicago. They have gone onto critical acclaim since their self-titled debut EP and have since bombarded fans with singles, split releases and full-length albums.
Their fourth album is due for release in October. They have toured with the likes of Tool and are known for their energetic live shows.
Once an underground sensation, Russian Circles are most definitely overground and ready to make their mark on the rock/metal scene.
7. PONY FACE
Friday 9th September at 8.30 pm
Pony Face will be launching their new single with the help of support acts, The Sun Blindness and Iowa.
After performing at many festivals in early 2011, music lovers have been jumping on board the Pony Face bandwagon ever since.
This is their first headline show in 9 months since spending time in the studio and one member becoming a dad.
Their unique sounds have been breaking hearts all over the country and Pony Face after their rest are raring to go.
8. THE CASUALTIES
Saturday 10th September at TBC
Punk band The Casualties will be performing at the East Brunswick Club with The Worst and No Idea.
The Casualties formed in 1990 with a desire to return punk to what it was back in its heyday. Now, seven albums later, The Casualties have achieved all they set out to do. With Countless tours across the USA, Japan and Europe, they have been bringing joy to the refreshed punk-rock scene.
They are open-minded and like playing with musical styles, throwing in reggae or thrash-metal on occasions.
9. PUGSLEY BUZZARD
Thursday 15th September at 8 pm
Pugsley Buzzard is a unique song man and piano player, likened to Louis Armstrong and Tom Waits.
His music spans the entire spectrum from blues to boogie, funk to soul and his captivating piano romps never fail to get people stomping.
His versatility is shown in his own interpretations of R&B and popular tunes, giving them his own twist and improvising them to make them his own.
He is just back from his tour of the USA and is sure to cause a packed-out house at The East Brunswick Club.
10. TRIAL KENNEDY
Friday 23rd September at 8.30 pm
Trial Kennedy is hitting Melbourne with support acts I Am Giant and The Quarters.
They have only just finished their national album tour but are going straight back on the road to celebrate the release of their third single Exology from the album Living Undesigned.
Since the album release in May, their soulful rock and love of performing have been received well from fans and the industry alike.
