What’s on in Melbourne Victoria – Hair of the Dog Mini Festival
Drag yourself out of bed in the late afternoon, have a warm shower, maybe a gallon or two of water and a Berocca, then start the stroll down to Bar Open on Brunswick Street. What will be waiting there for you is the ultimate hangover cure – a free sausage sizzle, big drink specials and some of the sweetest bands in Melbourne gracing the stages.
The bands taking to the stage for this music event include some of your favourite local and coastal bands, Sleep Decade, The Murlocs, Animaux, Facetime and Forever Son.
Sleep Decade are a band originally from Geelong, Victoria and since moving to the Big Smoke have become a staple in the local music scene. They present a charming blend of show gaze and dreamy pop through delicately executed ambience and mature songwriting abilities. Their music features abstract jazz-orientated rhythms, erratic guitar and ambient synth drones which combine to create what can only be described as ‘the Sleep Decade sound’. The band consists of the musically gifted brothers Casey and Monty Harnett, songwriter Tom Milekovic, Thom Plant and Henry Madin.
The Murlocs are another band from Geelong, Victoria who create low key and effortless garage rock. The members including Callum Shortal, Ambrose Kenny Smith, Matt Blach, Jamie Harmer and Andrew Crossley may look like a bunch of scruffy kids, but the music they produce is quite the opposite; it’s tight, it’s chilled and exactly what you need for that pounding headache.
Animaux have had a massive year releasing their debut EP, receiving radio play left right and centre as well as touring Victoria with Australia’s favourite all-chick band, Stonefield. If you haven’t yet heard these guys kicking some serious ass on a local stage with their energetic brass section and ridiculously talented lead singer and saxophonist, Alex Lahey, now is your chance before this band gets too big.
Also including Facetime and Forever Son with more bands and details to be announced.
