Sunday 15 January 2012 7:30pm
Tune-Yards is bringing her distinctive sound to Australia for the first time with this show, showcasing her sophomore album ‘w h o k i l l’. Possessing an expansive sound that marries a coarse folk ingenuity with the bold pop sensibility of an R&B siren, Tune-Yards is the project of Merrill Garbus, who has stripped Tune-Yards away to a more precise, concentrated and vivid sound with this album. ‘w h o k i l l’ retains the honesty of the lonely bedroom confessional characteristic of her early work, but with the addition of the fangs, claws and dented metal of its new surroundings. Called “one of the most distinctive records we’ve heard this year” by The Guardian, watch the colourful, full-of-life video for first single from the album, ‘Bizness’.
