The distance from Perth to Monkey Mia is 847.2 kilometers and it takes 9 hours and 8 minutes via State Route 60 and National Route 1.
Native Wildlife

Shark Bay World Heritage Area is one of the world’s greatest wilderness treasures the first location in Western Australia to receive UNESCO status in 1991. Home to diverse plant life and wildlife this area is a must visit on the West Coast.

Perth to Monkey Mia Tour Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Perth to Kalbarri
Depart Perth early morning and drive north on the Indian Ocean Drive. Enjoy the beautiful blue sea and drive past enormous white sand dunes. Before your lunch by the water, explore the Pinnacles Desert with a guided tour and then journey up Indian Ocean Drive with its picturesque beaches and stunning coastline. Have a quick stop in Geraldton before relaxing in Kalbarri, where you will stay overnight in accommodation by the sea. Lunch and Dinner are included.
Day 2 Kalbarri National Park to Shark Bay
Visit the beautiful Murchison Gorge, Nature’s Window and Kalbarri National Park. Here you are able to have a try abseiling (additional cost) and see a stunning array of colors in the wildflower season (spring). Nature’s Window is ideal for those wanting to get some great photos. Take a stroll on the beach made entirely of tiny shells. Then it’s on to Denham for the accommodation by the beach. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 3 Shark Bay to Northbrook / Northampton
This morning we will meet the famous Monkey Mia Dolphins and get some up and close amazing photos.
Monkey Mia
It is best known as the home of the Monkey Mia dolphins, the Reserve is a must-see for families and nature lovers alike. It’s located on the eastern shore of Peron Peninsula, about 23 kilometres from the town of Denham in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. Famous for their almost daily ritual of swimming to shore to interact with humans, the dolphins of Monkey Mia attract thousands of visitors to Australia’s Shark Bay region every year.
Why Monkey Mia
It’s unusual name and many Shark Bay locals debate its origin, the Mia part comes from an Aboriginal term for home but many believe is that the Monkey refers to the name of a ship which visited the area, others believe it refers to the Malaysian pearl farmers who worked the area during 1850s and would have pet monkeys.
Dolphin Experience
Times for the dolphin experiences depend on if and when the dolphins visit the beach. Whilst they are only offered fish during their first three visits between 7:45 am and 12 noon, they often visit the beach outside these times.
As the bottlenose dolphins are wild, numbers and the exact time of their visit varies just generally the first sighting of the dolphins arriving anytime from 7.30 am. The dolphins usually visit the shore up to three times a day. About four to seven dolphins visit for daily feedings, with up to 20 others visiting occasionally, often sighted in the bay with swimmers or on wildlife cruises.
Feeding the Dolphins
The dolphins are protected by WA’s Parks and Wildlife Service. You may get the opportunity to feed the dolphins under the supervision of a national park ranger, though this privilege is not guaranteed. Swimming with Dolphins and touching them is prohibited by law – however, these monitored feeding experiences allow you to get up close and personal with the dolphins.

Access to the reserve is subject to a separate Reserve fee – this is different to a National Park pass. You can also learn more about these fascinating creatures at the Dolphin Information Centre, the proceeds of which support WA’s Monkey Mia Appeal Trust.
Kayak
Choose to hire a Kayak and go for a paddle (optional extra), chill out on the beach or at the resort. We then visit the breathing rock formations called the Stromatolites before we head back towards our final night of the tour on an Australian farm. Depending on group size we either stay at a farm stay in Northbrook or at the Old Convent in Northampton. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 4 Northbrook / Northampton to Perth
Take in your last views of the countryside before we make our way back towards Perth. We return to Perth in the afternoon and breakfast is included.

It ranges between $ 725 and $ 1145 depending on the type of accommodation you choose.
