Whilst visiting Margaret River you should be aware that although famed for its vineyards, the area also boasts an excellent collection of caves, complete with fossils and an impressive selection of stalagmites and stalactites (stalagmites come from the floor, stalactites from the ceiling). The most famous being Mammoth Cave, which can be explored by simply wondering around with an audio description, some of the others require a little more forward planning.

Surfers Point Margaret River

And, with the ocean so close, there is of course, the surf. Surfers Point offers excellent breakers and is close to the mouth of the river, which gives the town its name. If you’re travelling to Margaret River during the spring and summer you may want to camp in the picturesque Prevelly.

With acres of petrified forests (due to a major bush fire) bordering the beaches. You’ll feel a million miles away as you camp near to the ocean. The surf here is amazing, but if you’re up for something a little calmer then paddle boarding and kayaking are also popular activities in this area.
