Check Out Sydney’s Best Festivals This Spring

Taking a trip to Sydney this Spring? You’re in luck. From music and arts to comedy and food, as well as everything in between, September will see Sydney play host to a whole string of fantastic festivals that are sure to capture your imagination. Read on to get the low down on all the best events, what to see and when to visit.

Sydney Fringe Festival

The largest independent arts festival in NSW, Sydney Fringe will be returning again for its 8th year with events spread out across the sprawling city highlighting the work of artists and performers. This year’s festival highlights include Sydney Fringe Comedy, a mini comedy festival showcasing more than 100 acts, with most tickets priced at $15 or less, and interactive performance ‘Undertaking’, where the audience is invited to control the story of a psychological thriller taking place across an abandoned office floor. Performances and exhibitions will be held all across the city, including the HGP Festival Hub, a 7,000sqm warehouse which will be transformed into a festival village and The Factory Theatre who run an entire program of ‘Fringe Comedy’. Whatever you’re after, you’re sure to find it at the Fringe.

Surrey Hills Festival

Drawing crowds of up to 60,000, Surrey Hills returns with its free festival celebrating the area’s famed food, art and design scenes. Expect to see excellent live music acts featuring the likes of Thandi Phoenix, Coda Conduct and many more, food stalls and kids activity workshops, making the event perfect for the whole family. Alongside all these festivities, this years festival also includes a partnership with Double Take to bring pop-up art and site-specific projections to the streets. They invited submissions from artists, video makers and performers who’s work will transform Devonshire street and its surroundings into a web of art and discovery from Saturday 23 September until Sunday 15 October. Interested? Don’t miss the guided tours which will feature artists discussing their work and ideas with audiences.

Parklands Food Fest

One for all those foodies out there, Parklands is a home grown community event featuring over 50 food stalls and fresh farm produce to tantalise your taste buds, alongside live music performances, cooking demonstrations and gardening workshops. Sample some of Western Sydney’s finest food including Vietnamese street style snacks from Huong Xua, classic Middle Eastern dishes such as falafel, tabbouleh and fattoush from Franks Lebanese restaurant and Pasalubongs’ Filipino soul food. If that doesn’t get your salivary glands going we don’t know what will! Finish off the day with a locally brewed caft beer from the Home Grown Microbrewery Marquee or an artisan gelato from Sweet Spot – the perfect way to spend any weekend!
