Escape Sydney City To Bundeena
Get out of the city. Escape the rat race. Rest, recharge and re-evaluate life’s simple goals by catching a ferry to Bundeena, Sydney’s hidden gem.
Departing from Martin Place, we took the one-hour train to Cronulla, stocked up on enough food and beverage to feed a small army, and climbed aboard the quaint, wooden ferry that sets you down a mere 20 minutes later in beautiful Bundeena. You honestly couldn’t feel further away from Sydney city.
This historic village is set around Australia’s oldest Royal National Park, where you will find meandering bushwalks high up on the cliff’s edge to such stunning spots as The Balconies and Wedding Cake Rock. If you’re lucky, you may even spot the annual whale migration.
With stunning bays located at the ferry drop point, hire a paddle board or kayak and go explore the scenery that Bundeena has to offer. Better yet, hire a double-kayak and let your partner do all the hard work!
Catch the ferry from Cronulla on the first Sunday of the month to indulge in the local art trail, where studio doors are open to the public for a glimpse into the creative juices of the artists aplenty around town.
With barely a bar or restaurant in sight, this is the perfect spot to pack your own supplies, rent out a house (we were fortunate to have access to “Le Soleil”, a stunning 3-double bedroom hilltop house with private access to the beach below) and kick back for a weekend of bliss, epic sunsets and a fair few beers and wine thrown in for good measure.
Who needs endless fancy bars and fine dining restaurants at every turn? This was pure escapism at its most idyllic, simplistic best.
