About two hours northwest of the city, the Cathedral Reserve campground is situated on the outskirts of village Mount Wilson in the Blue Mountains. Ten minutes of walk brings you to the Cathedral of Ferns. The 22 acres of rainforest is canopied by towering trees and filled with mossy stones and ferns. Fireflies adorn and light up the night sky at the jungle. The café in the treetops is a hot kitchen to satisfy your hunger pangs, as you climb!
Ingar Campground, Wentworth Falls
90 minutes west of Sydney, in the Blue Mountains National Park is the Ingar Campground, just a glance away from the Wentworth Falls. Take a dip in the nearby dam or kayak in the calm waters. Look out for the eastern water dragons. Toilets, barbeque facility and picnic tables are available in this picturesque campground.
The Pines, Olney State Forest
Sleep among the pine trees, with the fragrance of fresh pine! This roomy campground is in Olney State Forest, west of Lake Macquarie, about 2h 30m north of Sydney. The experimental plantation was planted back in 1920s. Explore the Watagan mountains or simply follow the Pines Walking Trail for the rainforest, rock-pool, the Abbotts Walking Trail and finally for the blue gum forests. Toilets, fireplaces and picnic tables make up the facilities.
