What’s on in Melbourne Victoria – Imogen Heap
Having sold out five shows in three cities on her last visit to Australia, two-time Grammy-nominated Imogen Heap returns to our shores bringing her unique brand of flamboyant, genre-agnostic semi-pop. Heap’s imaginative works, such as “Hide and Seek,” “First Train Home,” and “Little Bird” are known for being intensely personal and are uniquely translated onstage with custom-made equipment, visual projections, a perplex grand piano and her trademark ethereal vocals. Something of a child prodigy, this classically trained Brit began writing her own songs before she entered high school. Enormously ambitious, Heap taught herself sequencing, music engineering, sampling and production, which enabled her to effortlessly “straddle the divide between gloss and glitch”. Her DIY aesthetic has also enabled the overachieving songstress to self-produce and mix all three of her releases, with her most recent record, ‘Ellipse’ earning her a Grammy for Best Engineered Album. Date: Monday, 18th April 2011 Doors: 7:00 pm Show: 7:30 pm Venue: Palais Theatre www.palaistheatre.net.au
