The port city of Fremantle is located on a series of limestone hills near the entrance of the Swan River, about 25 minutes from Perth, Western Australia’s capital. Many of the city’s most magnificent heritage structures are made of the city’s pale-coloured native limestone.
As you approach Fremantle from the east and north, you’ll notice the Rainbow. A vibrant welcome to the port city and a nod to Fremantle Port’s importance in the shipping industry. The sculpture was created by Marcus Canning, a well-known Perth artist, and was commissioned by the City of Fremantle. It is made up of nine recycled sea containers that have been joined together to form an arch. The sea containers are colourful and creative, forming the shape of a giant rainbow as a universal symbol of hope and inspiration.

Fishing Boat Harbour has been in operation since the early 1900s. The harbour is still the best place to sample fresh local seafood with a locally brewed ale or premium West Australian wine.
