Things to do in Fremantle Today, WA

Things to do in Fremantle today, WA. The port city of Fremantle is located on a series of limestone hills near the entrance of the Swan River, about 25 minutes from Perth, Western Australia’s capital. Many of the city’s most magnificent heritage structures are made of the city’s pale-coloured native limestone.

As you approach Fremantle from the east and north, you’ll notice the Rainbow. A vibrant welcome to the port city and a nod to Fremantle Port’s importance in the shipping industry. The sculpture was created by Marcus Canning, a well-known Perth artist, and was commissioned by the City of Fremantle. It is made up of nine recycled sea containers that have been joined together to form an arch. The sea containers are colourful and creative, forming the shape of a giant rainbow as a universal symbol of hope and inspiration.

It is also famous for its arts support, ranging from local to national (and some international) artists. Fremantle is a must-see for all visitors as well as a popular local hangout for a day or night out.

Explore the J-Shed Galleries

A visit to the Bather’s Beach Arts Precinct and the J-Shed Galleries is one of the best things to do in Fremantle. The vibrant J-Shed Galleries may be found beneath the Round House and at the northern end of Bather’s Beach. There are various art studios and galleries in the area, including the new Fremantle Art Gallery, which offers a variety of shows by local artists.

Visit The Roundhouse

One of the oldest buildings in Western Australia is the twelve-sided Roundhouse. The permanent building offers stunning views and is the first permanent building built by the Swan River colony in the 1830s. You should explore the tunnel built beneath the Roundhouse by the Fremantle Whaling Company in 1837.

Prison Fremantle

Fremantle Prison holds a fascinating history as a high-security prison built by convicts. Fremantle is also one of Western Australia’s most significant cultural attractions. It was opened to the public in 1992 and offers history. In 2010, it was the first building in the state to be included on the World Heritage List.

Fremantle Arts Centre

Fremantle Arts Centre is the home of residence, live music, and exhibitions. There are also art courses for tourists and locals. The historic building is located in the Heart of Fremantle.

Cappuccino Strip

CappuccinStripip is Fremantle’s legendary location. It offers restaurants, outdoor cafes, and Western Australian wine or locally brewed beer. The Cappuccino Strip is home to many hotels, cafes, and restaurants. They offer live music, cabaret, mic nights at weekends, and during evenings.
