Planning a travel assault on Australia’s East Coast? Fraser Island tours encompass adventure, beauty, and fun in one fell swoop.
Nothing screams Aussie adventure more than the thought of spending a few days castaway on a desert island, but when we say desert island we actually mean the world’s largest sand island, Fraser Island.
Fraser Island is situated off the coast of Queensland across the waters of Hervey Bay, north of the Sunshine Coast. Fraser Island boasts one of the longest beaches in the world, Seventy-Five Mile Beach as well as some stunning lakes such as Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby.
Away from the water you’ll also find stunning, ancient and towering rainforests that will leave you breathless in awe of their lush and peacefulness.
Things to do on Fraser Island
Whilst visiting Fraser Island you can embark on a real adventure as you explore via 4WD, cruising along the sandy beaches or overlanding through the bumpy terrain of the forests. Camping under the stars and feasting on a proper Aussie BBQ whilst you take in the tranquility of the place which will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.
You can cool off during the day with a dip in Lake McKenzie as you peer through its crystal clear waters, or soothe your aches with a visit to the Champagne Pools – a natural jacuzzi created by waves crashing into the rock pools!
Fraser Island also plays host to dingos which you’ll often see on the beaches, as well as being a great place for whale-spotting. Hervey Bay is known as the Whale Watching Capital of the World, and between August and October each year, you are more than likely to spot a migrating mother and calf Humpback or two as they pass through the calm and warm waters close to the Island.
It’s on Fraser that you’ll also find the decaying and eerily stunning Maheno Wreck – a shipwreck that has been on the beach since it was washed ashore by a cyclone in 1935.
If you’re looking for adventure during your East Coast travels, then it certainly starts on Fraser Island.
